If you are interested in joining us at the next Pathfinders Camp please contact us.
We operate a Friendship Fund that can help to fund your place at camp if finances are really tight this year for whatever reason. Sam would be able to answer any questions you may have about this.
At Pathfinders, participants are split into small groups called patrols and each patrol has a number of disabled campers who are ‘buddied up’ with peer helpers. When you apply, you can decide which role will best fit you.
Helper
Helpers are predominantly women aged over 16. They will be paired up with a disabled camper to enable them to enjoy and participate in a week at camp – this might involve helping someone transfer in and out of bed or a wheelchair, accompanying them in activities or the swimming pool, feeding and personal care (washing and toileting). The support you give could be physical, but often the support to make someone feel safe and confident is foremost. You will receive any training you need and there will always be experienced helpers and Crew on hand to help you if you are unsure. You will need to hold or apply for a DBS check.
Male Helper
Male Helpers (often referred to as “Stunt Men”) are men aged over 16. They will be assigned to a patrol as helpers but are usually not involved in personal care. You will join in with all the duties and activities of the patrol and help enable disabled campers to get the best experience possible out of a week at camp. Male helpers do not sleep in the patrol tents but in tents on the lower field and have a separate toilet and wash area. You will receive any training you need and there will always be experienced helpers and Crew on hand to help you if you are unsure. You will need to hold or apply for a DBS check.
Disabled Camper
Campers are women with disabilities aged over 18. You might have any disability, and may be completely independent or have complex care needs. You will be buddied up with at least one helper who will be there to ensure you can engage with the week and make sure all your care needs are met. You will be making sure that they have a great time too! You may need to hold or apply for a DBS check. For all campers your patrol and the Crew team (including a trained nurse) are available to make sure you get the best out of your week at Pathfinders.
