A cold, dark day in January is momentarily cheered by a memory from camp last year… remembering a ‘magic moment’ can take us right back to thinking about the fun and friendship, the sheer sense of adventure that camping at Woodlarks provides.
We have a tradition at Pathfinders of starting our planning meetings by inviting everyone who has joined us to share one of their highlights from last year’s camp. It can be anything – that instant when everyone in the team started to work together well, the afternoon when everyone was in fits of giggles over something totally ridiculous, the look of exhilaration when someone stepped outside their comfort zone and achieved something they might have thought was impossible, and the shriek of pure joy from someone riding the aerial runway for the first time… And as more folk offer up their little piece of the jigsaw, the closer we get to reliving those experiences.
This ‘icebreaker’ reminds us just how special camping at Woodlarks is and why we keep coming back. And the energy this creates is a great starting point for planning the next camp!
